During
february, march, and april months of each year, traditionally
had a tomato high offer in the Barranquilla's market, larger
than store market could consumes, this fact made that the
price of it began to fall, so the production was unable.
Mister
Emilio Faillace, an industrialist of Barranquilla town,
he watched this situation, and he decided trading the product
excess, with this purpose, Emilio left to United States
in 1948, there he studied technology of food course and
he acquired machinery to make tomato sauce and manufacture
metallic containers to keep the product.
In 1950
began the production in Mister Faillace's factory, it was
called Compañia Colombiana
de Conservas y extractos vegetales ltda, as the primary
material only could be getting during three consecutive
months in a year and the factory was unproductive during
the next nine months of the year, he decided in 1952 to
imported fruit concentrated to make fruit can,
he was using the same machinery.
This
fact let the industry grow up, and in 1956 with the purpose
to enlarge his production and adding new products to the
local enviroment he looked for assotiation with W.R. Grace
& Co so was borned.
The
new society with more financial resources, began with its
products line in glass containers ( ketchup, marmalades,
pickles) and another can products, like soups, etc., growed
up its production and the company was able to be one of
the most important preserves companies
of the country.
In the
1963 ends Grace & Cia, bought "Faillace Inversiones"
part, and it founded CONSERVAS
CALIFORNIA S.A., this company builded more comfortable
constructions in the airport way, where was installed the
factory of beginings of 1965. With new equipment acquisition
the existent products got better and in 1967 began the nectars
production in glass containers, inittially with "slip-on"
cover and later with crown cover, with these innovations
the company could be the nectars fruit sales leader in the
country and a very important tomato products producer.
About
the middle of 1971, Grace & Cia, decided to left Colombia
and sold the enterprise to Nestle, this enterprise with
swiss capital. The new company owners installed extra equipment
and introduced new products, applying all its technology
in the food production.
Nestle
bought some equipments to Comestibles La Rosa from Pereira
and began to produce marmalades, slice of pineapple and
vegetables, increasing its products variety. Nestle exported
during some years tropical fruit nectars to United States
with the Condal sign.
As an
one year only can be three one crop of tomato and tropicals
fruit, Nestle had to made its finishing products for all
the year, it made the costs affecting the enterprise results
so Nestle stopped to produce since august of 1981.
Since
march of 1982 began the manufacturing of all the products
again (nectars in glass containers, ketchups, chili sauce,
bolognesa sauce, etc) Since these age, had been introducing
to the market new products and had been building a factory
in Santa Fe de Bogota and an industrial complex in the town
of Simijaca.
This
way, in the present, CONSERVAS
CALIFORNIA S.A., has a variety of 125 references
of products, and have the last technology of aseptics packing
for food, it means, tetra brink containers wich products
are packing ultrapauterizated (fruit nectars 200 and 1000
cc. sizes, pure milk and low fat milk, milk with different
flavors produce by the shikiss sign, etc.
The
company have been advancing and today it is enough to supply
of fruit pulp and fruit concentrated, because it has a modern
pulp factory in the industrial complex of Simijaca
where are processing all the fruit that it needs to the
production and to the pulps manufacture to export in order
to Europe (mango, pienapple, maracuya, etc.).
